ASUU HAS FINALLY CALLED OFF IT'S STRIKE, "CONDITIONALLY"

 

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) on Wednesday “conditionally” suspended its strike, ending a protracted industrial action that started since March 2020.

He said the suspension of the strike takes effect from Thursday, December 24th, 2020.

ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi made the announcement during a briefing of the union in Abuja, explaining that the development followed the agreement reached with the Federal Government and a meeting with its National Executive Council (NEC).

Covid-19 : Sanwo-Olu shuts down religious centers, Concerts, Carnivals etc.,


The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has returned the order restricting the operations of churches and mosques in the state.

He asked the worship centres not to hold services for more than two hours, adding that no gathering must exceed 50 per cent of the maximum capacity of the Venue.

Sanwo-Olu also banned carnivals and street parties in the state, in a statement on Friday.

How we rescued the Kankara boys -Masari


The Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, has said that ransom was not paid before kidnappers freed hundreds of schoolboys kidnapped from Kankara part of the state.

He said the boys, kidnapped last week, were released after negotiations with the kidnappers whom he described as bandits. He did not, however, say what the bandits got in return for freeing the students.

In an interview with DWTV Hausa on Thursday night, Mr Masari said the boys were being conveyed to the Katsina at the time of this report.

COVID-19: Nigeria record a very high daily infection case after a very long while


 Nigeria, on Friday, recorded its highest daily COVID-19 infection figure since the beginning of the outbreak in late February.

Nigeria recorded 796 new cases on Friday, health authorities said, smashing previous highest daily record of 745 reported on June 19.

One Thursday, 675 new cases were recorded, one of the highest daily tally in six months.

5000 orphans and others in Lagos to get free medical health care


The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the release of funds from the equity of the Lagos State Health Scheme to provide free health care for 50,000 orphans, the elderly and the vulnerable persons in the state.

d this on Thursday at the celebration of the 2020 Universal Healthcare Coverage Day organised by the Lagos State Health Management Agency.

EDUCATION: ASUU Releases Press Statement, Deny Suspending Strike On Dec 9

 The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has denied claims that it reached an agreement with the federal government to suspend its ongoing strike today, December 9, 2020.


President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi in a statement made available to newsmen Wednesday night, said ASUU representatives do not have the powers to suspend or call off industrial action but must follow due process which includes transmitting the outcome of negotiations to members and National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU for further deliberations and actions.

COVID-19: SECOND WAVE OF CORONAVIRUS HITS SOUTHAFRICA


 South Africa, the country most affected by the coronavirus on the continent, has entered a second wave of the pandemic, the health minister declared Wednesday.

“As it stands as a country we now meet that criteria,” said Zweli Mkhize in a statement as the country registered nearly 7,000 new cases in the last 24-hour cycle.

The country now counts 828,598 infections after 6,709 new cases were detected between Tuesday and Wednesday.
